James McKinney
It is Jim’s pleasure to have worked with families for over 20 years in College Planning. As a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Jim is passionate and committed to assisting families in the college planning process while creating relationships that instill long term success. Jim has worked with over 1,000 families in his career, including his own three children who have gone through the college planning process as well, so Jim understands what families are facing in this process. He’s a Certified College Planning Specialist and a Charter Member of the National College Advocacy Group (now known as the National College Affordability Group). Jim has served in leadership roles in his community with several nonprofit organizations and believes in giving back any way that he can- helping others is his biggest passion.
Danielle LaCoste
Danielle is passionate about guiding families through the college process and has been doing so for over 15 years. With 17 years of experience in higher education and 25 years working with young people in an educational setting, Danielle brings both expertise and heart to every family she supports. Danielle holds a master’s degree, teaching credentials, and certification as a life coach, which allows for support of students not only academically, but also socially and emotionally as they navigate this important transition. Danielle believes the college journey should be informed, empowering, and personalized—and is excited to partner with families every step of the way.
Jen Pera
Jen is a dedicated college planning consultant who transforms a daunting, complex process into an inspiring family milestone. Her passion for this work began firsthand while navigating the college search for her own son alongside James McKinney. During that journey, she fell in love with the "puzzle" of admissions—the art of balancing student interests and campus fit with financial realities. Seeing these pieces click together inspired her to help other families achieve that same "perfect fit" with confidence.
As a single parent of two young men who has maintained a long-standing career in advertising and marketing, Jen offers a unique blend of empathy and precision. She deeply relates to the challenges modern families face, from managing high-pressure careers to navigating the financial demands of tuition. Her goal is to strip away the stress and anxiety often associated with higher education, providing a steady hand and a supportive guide for both parents and students.
Emily McKinley
Emily is excited to guide you on your journey to higher ed! As the sole parent to three young men, Emily understands firsthand the challenges of finding an affordable and perfect college fit. She first partnered with James McKinney and Danielle Lacoste while navigating her eldest son’s road to college. Together, they found a place for him to thrive as a full scholarship student at a private liberal arts college. His journey, much like hers, illustrates that opportunities abound for enthusiastic and open-minded students!
In addition to her personal experience, Emily brings nearly two decades of experience in corporate and nonprofit roles. As a public relations and communications strategist, Emily has had the privilege of serving in diverse roles and industries across the country. She enjoys building partnerships and leading others to realize their full potential. Emily is excited to partner with students and their parents as they launch into adulthood.
